The Story Behind the Gown

For the pageant’s “A Night at the Movies” theme, Vivyan Jaymes Mourningwould embodied the timeless glamour of Gone with the Wind, reimagining Scarlett O’Hara through her own family history, artistry, and handmade design.

The gown was entirely handmade by Vivyan, featuring over ten yards of fabric, a dramatic train and bustle, cascading feathers, hand-placed gems, and jewelry details created with meticulous care.

The inspiration reached far beyond film. In 1939, Vivyan’s great-grandparents had their first date at an opening-day showing of Gone with the Wind in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Their love story became a family legacy — one Vivyan carried onto the stage through every stitch, feather, and stone.

That night, Vivyan did not walk the stage alone. She carried generations of love, creativity, resilience, and self-expression with her.
